Change to minimum supported versions for Home App

What is the minimum supported Operating System (OS) version of a mobile app?

The minimum supported OS version of a mobile app refers to the oldest or lowest version of an operating system (such as iOS or Android) on which the app can run. It represents the baseline requirement for users to be able to install and use the app on their devices.

By setting a minimum supported OS version, developers ensure that the app functions correctly and delivers a satisfactory user experience on devices running that particular operating system version or any newer versions.

Why do we need to increase the minimum supported OS version?

Increasing the minimum supported operating system (OS) version for an app is beneficial for several reasons.

  • Newer OS versions often come with significant improvements in terms of features, performance and security.

  • By increasing the minimum support OS version, developers can leverage these advancements and provide users with a more enhanced and secure app experience.

  • Targeting a higher OS version allows developers to take advantage of the latest development tools, frameworks and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) provided by the OS, enabling them to create more innovative and efficient apps.

  • Supporting newer OS versions reduces the need for backward compatibility testing and maintenance efforts, allowing developers to focus on implementing new features and addressing current user needs.

  • Increasing the minimum support OS version ensures that the app remains compatible with the majority of active devices, as users tend to update their operating systems regularly. This wider compatibility improves market reach and user satisfaction while also reducing fragmentation in the app ecosystem.

  • Overall, increasing the app's minimum supported OS version is a necessary strategic decision that promotes progress, a better user experience and streamlined development processes.

How do I update my phone or tablet’s operating system?

Android phones: check and update OS

Apple devices:  check my OS  and update OS

I’m using an old device and cannot update my OS to the MSV. Will the Playground/Home app still work if it is already installed on my device before 11 July?

Yes, you can keep using the app. However, you will not be able to install future app updates.

What will happen if I do not upgrade my operating system before 11 July?

The software will continue to work but will not receive any new product releases or app improvements.

I am using an old device with lower than the MSV operating systems, and I had to uninstall the app. Can I re-install the app from AppStore/Google Play?

No, you will be unable to download the app from the AppStore/Google Play after 11 July if you do not have a device with the new MSV OS.

Why can’t I find the app in the iOS AppStore or Google Play store?

This means that your device and/or operating system is not compatible with this software. You will need to upgrade your operating system or obtain a newer device.

What if I cannot update it because it doesn’t allow me to update?

This means your device is not compatible with the required operating system. Please discuss this with your device tech store or device provider. It may mean you need to get a newer device as the one you are using is no longer compatible with the latest operating systems supported for your device type.

Types of Users

There are four types of users who can access different parts of Xplor, with different abilities within and outside of the app. We have summarised how each user can interact with the system below:

Home App FAQ's

What is Home app?

Home app is an app for parents at Xplor and Discover centres to use to communicate and engage with their child care centre.

Does Home app cost centres or parents?

No, Home app is now included with Discover and is free for parents.

I am a parent and use more than one child care service. How do I add additional services to my Home app?

A Home account will be created for each centre. You may use the same email for both centres, but your pin number/password will need to be different in order to switch between the two accounts.

I am a parent and use more than one child care service. How do I switch between accounts in Home?

You will need to log out of your current centre, and log in using the email and pin associated with the other centre.

My invitation to create my profile has expired. How do I get another invite?

Invitations to set up your account will be sent to parents via email. These invitations will expire after 7 days of being sent. This is to ensure that your account is protected.

If your invitation has expired before you have created your account, please ask the admin team at your child care service to send you another.

How can parents reset their password?

Passwords can be reset in two ways;

  1. Parents can reset their password themselves by going to the login page of the Home app or via home.myxplor.com. Hit “Forgot password?” to receive a reset password email. This reset password email will expire after 2 hours.
  2. Administrators can send a reset password email to parents via Office by going to Profiles> Parents and Guardians> Reset Password

What are the features of Home app?

Families Can:

  • Use contactless sign in/out at the centre

  • Record their child’s learning journey and at-home health events

  • View their child's learning journey and health event updates from their Centre (if the centre is using Playground)

  • View their bookings and statements

  • View and respond to communications from their centre

  • Verify their child's attendance.

Which contacts in Discover can use Home app?

Discover has a wide variety of roles/permissions that can be assigned to a contact. The following types are supported (meaning they can use Home app):

  • Primary caregivers only

  • Primary caregiver + finance

  • Primary caregiver + Can pickup

  • Primary caregiver + finance + can pickup

  • Finance only

  • Finance + can pick up

  • Can pick up only

The options/functionality that are present in the app depend on the permissions granted to the account in Discover. For example, accounts with “Finance only” will only be able to see Finance functionality, while “Can pick up only” only can see sign in/out functionality.

It is important to note that at launch, only primary caregivers are sent the Home App Welcome Email via the bulk action tool. In the near future, centres will be able to also invite other contacts.

Who can access the Finance section in Home?

Only the Primary Carer can access the Finance tab in Home App and Home Web. If the wrong parent has been set up as the Primary Carer, this can be changed only by an administrator at your childcare.

When parents are signing in or out, will they have the option to drop off or pick up other children where they have permission?

Yes, when parents scan the QR code on the centre’s tablet, they’ll see children that have bookings where they have the Can Pick Up/Can Drop Off permission.

Does the QR code on the app open the Home app when it is scanned or must it be scanned by the Home App?

The QR code must be scanned from within the Home app.

Are parent Health Events and Moments (at-home learning photos) shared with centres?

Not currently.

If I have children who attend different or multiple centres, will I still be able to see everything in Home?

Yes, you will be able to toggle between centres which you can learn more about here

Where does the Help Centre button in the Home app link parents to?

Right now this button provides an email address and phone number for families to contact the Discover Support Team.
